Leaf of Many Colors - Machine Appliqué Sassaman Style
Make a multi-colored leaf using Jane’s unique machine appliqué technique. You will learn how to stabilize fabric, layer shapes, remove unwanted bulk, practice raw edge stitching and appliqué a one piece border while creating this handsome 18” quilt top.
Supply List:
Jane’s Mulberry Leaf Pattern, $10 each. Jane will bring them to class.
Border fabric - 3/4 yard- large scale print.
Background fabric -1/2 yard solid color - behind leaf applique. Matching the background color of your large border print.
Leaf applique fabric - 1/4 yard of 8 colors
Choose 2 basic colors for your leaf. Then find variations of each color from light to dark. For example, Aqua and Sage = light aqua, med aqua, dark aqua, X dark aqua, light sage, med sage,dark sage, X dark sage
50wt threads - 2 colors that generally match leaf fabrics
ShirTailor Iron-On Interfacing 950F by Pellon - 2 yards
Felt, foam, corrugated cardboard or ironing mat for pinning shapes
Basic Sewing Supplies including:
Embroidery scissors
Quilting scissors
Straight pins
Rotary cutter & board
