I am so happy to be home for a few days between teaching jobs and to be with my family and do everyday chores. What used to be routine and mundane has now become a treat.
But as I am catching up on neglected tasks my brain is working on the next quilt. I've been to so many wonderful new landscapes this year, but it is mostly the California visits that are in my thoughts today. Several of my quilts have been inspired from plants that I have seen on the West Coast. The Century Plant and the Curl & Vortex series, for example, all grew from plants I've experienced on West Coast beaches, parks and gardens. The plants of California have shapes and attitudes that are so different from the Midwest varieties I grew up with. I love them all, but for pure drama the strong definite silhouettes and shadows of California plants in the sunshine are too good to be true. They are almost cartoons or operatic caricatures. So, which character will perform in the next quilt?
